New Member Program

The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.

The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.

Each fall the Beta Lambda chapter welcomes a new pledge class of girls ready to begin their journey to becoming an initiated member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

From bid day to initiation, our chapter works hard to welcome the new members and at the same time to teach them what it means to be a member of Kappa.

Some of the highlights of our new member program include bid day, walkout, the big/little reveal, and I-week bonding.

Bid Day: Truly a day full of excitement and a little bit of chaos as the new members run to the house after receiving their bids on the quad. With a endless pictures, a BBQ, and a DJ, the new members get their first glimpse of what's like to be a Kappa.

Walkout: A Weekend long retreat for the new members our team building activities at a surprise location and then a sleepover in the front room of the Beta Lambda house where the bonds of true sisterhood begin to form.

Big/Little Reveal: A week long mystery in which the soon to be "littles" receive various gifts from their "bigs" that then leads up to the big reveal.

I-week: The week leading up to initiation where the new member participate in nightly events with the different pledges classes as a way to bond with the other girls in the house. Some of past activities have included making a big/little scrapbook and quilt.
